01 Releases
The debut album. Fourteen tracks across all six sub-styles, sequenced as a five-act arc through a single late night — finding the pocket, settling in, the deep-night fire-escape suite, going home, and an end-of-night 3am-ramen pair as closer. Themed around small late-night city geography — bus shelters, bodegas, fire escapes, freight elevators, the laundromat at 2am.

Sodium Dreams is the lo-fi project from 480Studios — an instrumental dusty-beats project producing music for late-night city listening. AI-assisted instrumental, mastered for streaming.
The view from a third-floor apartment window at 1am. The streets below have those yellow sodium-vapor lamps that haven't been replaced with LEDs yet. Someone two floors down is making instant ramen. A bus passes every twenty minutes. The city is slow but not asleep.
The job: be the soundtrack of a quiet city night — warm, dusty, melancholic-but-not-sad, rhythmically just-alive-enough that the listener can do something while it plays. Or do nothing, and let it run for hours.
This is solitary music, by design — for the late shift. Sodium Dreams is one of the four 480Studios artists made for the hours you spend alone, here the apartment at 2am, the work still open while the city sleeps. It's for the ones still going after everyone else clocked out, putting in the quiet hours nobody sees. Not to distract from the grind — to make it something you'd almost look forward to. (Last Pour is the counterweight: the one for when the work's done and you're back with people.)
03 The Sound
Six sub-styles, all in the lo-fi tradition. The dust is consistent. The vinyl crackle is part of the genre signature, never a gimmick.
The classic. Dusty drums, Rhodes m9 chords, soft upright bass, vinyl crackle. The default sound — about 40% of the catalog.
Slightly faster, more saturated, hint of a guitar lick or muted trumpet around 0:30. Slightly more upbeat for a lo-fi track.
Slower, more atmospheric, vinyl crackle prominent. Sparse drums. City ambience louder than usual.
Warmest sub-style. Rhodes plays slow chord stabs, sub-bass underneath, soft snare on 2 and 4, no melodic top.
Most abstract. Chopped melodic samples (instrumental — no voice), dusty drums, no traditional chord progression.
Almost beat-less. Rhodes ballad, brushed drums at -20 dB, melancholic. Best as opener/closer of a tape.
